"She Don't Wanna Know"

INT. Communal dining area Night

Large bar area with wall to wall vending machines and a single countertop with large comfortable chairs and small table suitable for only a maximum of two people.

In one corner sits two figures, one long lizard and one small crocodile-like creature.  They are at a small table with a small light.  The small one, KEVA, sits on some stacked books in order to see over the table top.  The creatures seem to be playing a sort of card game, similar to that of poker.  There is a large stack of various coins and other valuable gems in the center of the table.  The two seem to be trying out-guess the other one’s next move.

The tall one slams a card the table

Jipes
(shouts)
Double-headed Queen!
(laughs)
Beat that!

Keva grins and holds out a card from his hand. He smiles wickedly as he turns it around and places it on the table.  As Jipes looks at it his jaw falls on the table.

Jipes
(shocked)
No Way!  The Dragon's Whisker!  How?  When?
(crys)
Why?

Keva grins as he leans over the table to sweep in the winnings.

Jipes
How'd you get that card Kevs?  Come on you can tell me, your 'ld buddy, 'ld pal.

Keva signs and places his chin on his cheek.  He has a bored expression on his face.



Jipes
No fair!  You being mute 'n' all... Come on, double or not-ting.

Keva looks surprised at Jipes, and then at the winnings and then back at Jipes.  Keva looks puzzled.

Jipes
I still have something to bet, my good 'ld bud'.  This!

Jipes pulls an over sized sandwich from his bag.  It is over a meter long and is stuffed with meat, vegetables, cheese and various other toppings.  Keva begins to drool, he jumps onto the table and attempts to grab it.  Jipes lifts the sandwich out of the way and Keva slides off the table and on the floor, crashing into another chair.

Jipes
So you in?

Keva stands up, dusts himself off and nods.  He hops back onto his chair as Jipes shuffles the deck and begins to deal the cards.

Penny (O.S)
Damn machine

Cut to:
INT: - same

A tall, long brown haired amphibious humanoid, PENNY, stands at the vending machine.  Her long brown hair is tied up in a ponytail.  She fumbles in her pocket for a screwdriver, pulls it out and puts in the drinking vending machine. She twists it and turns it until the machine clicks and whirrs and makes a noise.

Vending Machine
Ding!

Penny
Finally!

Hot drinkable liquid pours into a cup.  Penny takes it finds a seat, turns on a lamp and opens her magazine.

Cut to:

Keva watching Penny, his jaw on the table top, a slick of drool in corner of mouth.  We can hear Keva's heartbeat as it increases in tempo.  Jipes notices Keva is distracted and takes the chance to look at the cards, and stack them in such a way that Keva will get the rubbish ones.  Keva looks back at Jipes, and points to Penny, he seems puzzled.  Jipes continues to deal as he looks at Penny.

Jipes
That's Penny.  She's one of Gilly's sisters.  Hear she likes computer things.  I also hear her lab is a bit of a tip.  Too lazy to do a 'ting a-bout it, so I hears.

Jipes finishes dealing the cards and is about to pick up his stack, when Keva puts his paw on Jipes’s stack.  He points at Penny and points at himself and winks.

Jipes
Oh I see... Okay, just this once.

Keva licks his right paw and sweeps his wet paw over his hair, straightening his hair, which then springs back to its original position.  Keva then leaps off the table and hops over to Penny's table.  Jipes quickly look at Keva's stack of cards and laughs to himelf

Penny is sipping her drink in right hand, reading magazine in the other hand.  She continues to read until Keva taps her on the arm.  She turns to face Keva.  Keva shyly waves and smiles at Penny.  Penny returns a quick smile in response and returns to the magazine and sips her drink.  Keva's smile quickly fades to a frown and shoulders droop.  Keva hops back slower with head down to the first table, where he climbs back onto his seat.

Jipes
(chuckles)
Can't win 'em all Bud

Keva sighs and takes his stack of cards.  As he looks at his cards, he glances back to Penny with her beautiful brown hair and glowing skin and begins to dream.

DREAM: KEVA AND PENNY ON DATE

-- An ice cream stand: They buy ice cream cone.  As Penny licks her ice cream a chunk of it falls off the cone and onto Keva's snout.  She giggles as he raises his snout to her.  She licks the ice cream off his snout.

-- A movie theater: They sit next to each other.  Keva attempts to wrap his arm around Penny but can not reach around her with his short arms.  She giggles and hugs him tightly.  He blushes.

-- A park: they watch a sunset on a small bridge.  Keva is standing on the bridge railing and is at eye level with Penny. They stare into each other's eyes, smiling and preparing to kiss.

BACK TO SCENE

Jipes slaps Keva on the temple, snapping him back to reality.

Jipes
Your move, Small-Fry

Keva shakes his head and places a card on the table.  It is clear he is concentrating on something or someone else.

Jipes
(excited)
Unless yous pulling somethin' special outta dad bag Kevs, I wins it alls.

Keva stares at Penny and plays down another card without looking at his hand.

Jipes
(excited)
Dat's right!  A winner is me!

Keva nods and watches as Penny gets up to leave.  Keva climbs off his chair and blindly follows her out of the Kitchen.

Cut to:

Jipes with the winnings.  He looks annoyed as he takes as bite of the sandwich.  He shouts at Keva.

Jipes
(with food in mouth)
It's no fun when you don't play fair Kevs!


Cut to:

Int. corridor: same

A long corridor with sloping walls and many doors on each side.  Penny walks down the corridor sipping her drink.  Keva hops behind Penny, keeping his distance.  Penny turns a corner and enters the large doorway that leads to the computer lab.  Keva sticks his head into the doorway and gasps.

INT- Computer lab: Night

Large room with state-of-the-art computers.  Wall to wall electronics.  Low ceiling.  It is dark in this room except for the glow of the monitors on the largest wall.
Monitors display live views from around the Resistance HQ, dining area, training hall, socialising room etc.
One monitor displays "Matrix"-like scrolling numbers and another is blank save for a blinking cursor.

Penny sweeps junk off the table with her left hand and lays her still steaming drink on the now tidy space on the counter top.
She flops into a swivel chair, turns on a small lamp beside her, puts her feet up on the counter and continues to read her magazine.


Keva in awe, surveying the room.  He looks a little lost in these surroundings.
He notices the blank monitor and searches for an input device.  He follows a cable that leads over a heap of discarded computer chips and finds a battered keyboard with several key faces missing.
He picks up the keyboard and hops closer to the monitor.  He taps some buttons and some letters appear on the screen.  He eventually types out "I help here?" on the monitor after some time.

Penny is still reading her magazine.  Keva taps Penny on the hip.  Penny turns and looks at him.


Penny
You again?

Keva points at the monitor.  Penny squints as she reads the text on the screen.  Puzzled, she looks at Keva.

Penny
You wanna help me?

Keva nods head nod, nod, nod

Penny
So you can program these computers right?

Keva shakes head shake, shake, shake

Penny
No? Fix viruses then?

Keva shakes head shake, shake, shake


Penny
Well how about reboot the main CPU?

Keva shakes head shake, shake, shake

Penny
Clean up hard drives then?

Keva smiles and makes a rewind motion with his hands


Penny
Rewind...um, clean up?

Keva nods head nod, nod, nod


Penny
Clean up, you mean as in clean up here?

Keva nods head nod, nod, nod

Penny
Okay then...

Keva jumps in the air with excitement

Penny (cond)
The brush, mop, dusters and so forth are in the Sweeping Room, three rooms down on the left.  This place is a little messy, but that's what happens when I get involved in my research.  Now this place hasn't seen a duster in about two years, as I imagine you can tell...

Keva nods in agreement and raises an eye brow while surveying the room

Penny (cond)
Well that's cause I've been working on a Top Priority project, (winks) one that will help us immensely in our fight against Newton.  So I haven't been able to do anything other that this project.  I would appreciate I you could get started, as I'll be going back to programming shortly and I'll need to concentrate.

Keva salutes like a soldier and turns to get the cleaning items.

Penny
Wait! I'd like you to start that area first.

Keva watches as Penny points to a pile covered in discarded papers, dust and dirt.  A broken monitor is barely visible under the mountain of trash.

Cut to:
Keva as face falls as he leaves the room

Penny
(Shouts)
Thanks Cutey

Keva smiles as he leaves the room.

Int. Corridor

Keva opens the door marked "Sweeping Room".  As he opens it, the door creaks loudly and opens to reveal a small room.

Small dark room with many shelves.  The shelves contain various cleaning products.  A broken brush is on the floor.  A dustpan is hanging up by a hook on one of the shelves.  Most of the shelves are covered in a light coating of dust.

Keva picks up the broken brush and uses the other broken part of the handle to knock down the dustpan.  Knocking down the dustpan causes a layer of dust to fall on top of him and start him sneezing.

Keva makes a sneezing motion, but no sound.

Keva gathers the broken brush and dusty dustpan and closes the door to the Sweeping Room.
He hops back in the direction of the Computer Lab silently sneezing the rest of the way.

FADE OUT

FADE IN

INT- Computer Lab: Later

The room is a lot cleaner now.  The floor can actually be seen.
The monitors seem to gleam and shine.

Keva sits on the floor, he is covered in dirt.  He wipes his sweated brow.

Penny enters the room.

Penny
(shocked)
Oh my gosh!

She smiles as she surveys the room.

Penny
(excited)
I’d forgotten there was actually a floor here and these monitors, they look so NEW!

She runs over to Keva, picks him up under the arms and swings him around.  Keva looks a little scared and dizzy.

Penny
(excited)
You did such a great job.  This great!  I can do so much more work in here now.

Penny puts Keva down.  His eyes continue to roll around in his head.  Penny kneels down so she is at Keva's eye-level.  Keva shakes his head and his eyes stop rolling.

Penny
(quietly)
Thank you.  I really appreciate what you have done.

Penny kisses Keva on the snout. Keva blushes as his whole body turns red for a few moments.  Penny giggles as she watches him.

Monitor One
Buzz-buzz-buzz-buzz!

Penny
Oh a call!


Penny scrambles to her feet and runs over to the monitor.  She presses a button as amphibious humanoid male, GILLY appears on the monitor.  He looks very similar to Penny, except for the fact he has no hair and larger fin-ears.


Gilly
Hey Sis, I'm looking for the file you had on the DS Stabilizer, do you still have it?

Penny presses and keeps her finger on another button as she speaks.

Penny
Sure Bro, I’ll bring it to you in a few minutes.  It should be in my important pile.  Meet me in the Kitchen, it's about time I had another Coffee.

Gilly
Okay, see you in a few minutes

The monitor blips as Gilly disappears from the monitor.  Penny turns and stares at the left most corner of the room.  She seems to be looking for something.

Penny
(shouts)
Hey, Meva, isn't it?  Have you seen my important pile?  It used to be around here somewhere.

Keva (now back to his regular colouring) sticks his tongue out a little bit and tilts his head to think.

FLASHBACK: KEVA CLEANING UP

-- Keva sorting though various papers.  He gets fed up attempting to organize the mess.  He fumbles though another pile and finds a paper shredder.  He grins and feeds all the papers through the shredder.  One of the papers is marked DS Stabilizer.
-- When all the papers have been shredded, Keva empties the shredder on the floor and kicks the papers as if they were Autumn Leaves before sweeping them all up.

BACK TO SCENE

Keva's face droops once he realizes what he as done.  Penny turns around a spots this action.

Penny
(serious)
You didn't...

Keva looks at his feet shyly

Penny
(worried)
Please tell me you didn't...

Keva looks up, he looks a little scared.

Penny
(screams)
I don't believe it!

As Penny begins to pace around the room while ranting to herself, Keva sneaks out the door.
